
It is reported that West Bengal expressed concern over Coal India switching to new pricing mechanism from useful heat value to gross calorific value that was expected to push coal price.
Mr Manish Gupta state power minister said "We are concerned over the new system. But the picture is not yet clear as we have not seen the notification of price."
Concerned with the situation, the minister has apprised this to Chief Minister Mr Mamata Banerjee in a meeting. He said CIL raised prices suddenly without consulting with the state government and feared rise in coal price.
Mr Gupta said "We demand a coal regulator to check such acts,"
Currently, the state owned power producer West Bengal Power Development Corporation consumes coal worth INR 10 crore daily.
