York Transport Equipment Asia, a Singapore headquartered trailer undergear manufacturer, is re-jigging its global manufacturing capabilities, concentrating its global manufacturing in India and China. It is setting up a second plant in China to cater to the export market while the existing plant will focus on the domestic China market.
As a first step towards consolidation, York will move all its manufacturing in India to its six month old plant at Talegaon, near Pune, from Jamshedpur. It will set up a new plant, its second, in China which will be similar to its Talegaon plant to address global markets.
York's CEO, Singapore based Mr PV Balasubramaniam said that "Our second China plant, which will be set up next year close to our global sourcing hub, will cater to the export markets of Korea, Mongolia and Australia. Our Singapore plant, which currently serves the South East Asian markets will supply only non standard axles while Australia was always an assembly operation.”
He added that "From next year, plants in India and China will supply all the standard axle products globally."
Singapore used to have two manufacturing plants of which one was shut down in 2007, after TRF acquired the company and moved that manufacturing to Jamshedpur.
York is a subsidiary of TRF, a material handling systems and equipment provider company part of the TATA group. York makes trailer axles, suspensions and other components that comprise trailer undergear.
