It is reported that approximately 3 million tonnes of steel will be required for the Denali gas pipeline project in Alaska if the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approves the application filed.

If approved, the open season, during which the Denali gas pipeline group will lay out its cost estimates and plan of execution, would begin sometime in July 2010. The proposal will include plans to move approximately 4.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day from the North Slope through a 2,000 mile pipeline to Alberta.

Additionally, every major highway and port, and also the Alaska Railroad, would be involved in the project.

Denali is owned by BP and Concoco Phillips, together, the two energy giants own roughly half of the North Slope's proven gas reserve base of 35 trillion cubic feet.
