AHMSA begins operations at BF No 6 in Monclova

Altos Hornos de Mexico began operating the blast furnace 6, installed on t with an investment of USD 150 million, whose production capacity will be 4,000 tonnes of pig iron daily.

The Blast Furnace 6 was designed based on proprietary technology and technical AHMSA has the most advanced automated equipment operation and control.

Mr Luis Zamudio the director general of AHMSA said that hot test period was conducted successfully.

The Blast Furnace 6 is the first production unit that started operating in the Phoenix Project, designed to realize maximum capacity AHMSA to increase by 40% from current levels of production and reach 5 million tonnes of liquid steel.

He added that "To the technical staff of the Blast Furnace AHMSA 6 represents a professional pride and a landmark in the Mexican steel industry, as the proper design and operation expresses its successful experience in a matter of great casting."

To fulfill the environmental commitment of AHMSA, the new blast furnace has advanced control systems through capture, extraction, containment and cleaning of gases and particles as well as a closed circuit of 42 kilometers of pipes water, which allows the reuse of 40 liters per second required for cooling.
