AP reported that AK Steel Corporation faces a fine of more than USD 7,000 and two citations after a worker was burned when he fell into hot water at the company's Middletown Works coke plant.
Authorities said that a maintenance worker fell into a condensation pit August 24th 2009 while working on pipes and suffered burns over 65% to 70% of his body.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration said that guard rails met height standards but the employees were working inside the rails or taking them down. OSHA also says the company was not properly evaluating the people working on steam lines.
AK Steel has 15 working days to schedule a conference with OSHA.
Mr Alan McCoy spokesman of AK Steel said that AK Steel is reviewing the documents.
