Alpha Finance Romania reported that aluminum maker Alro Slatina plans to become supplier for aircraft industry producers by the end of 2009. Alro has invested some EUR 62 million to EUR 78 million in the past years to comply with the aero space certification standards.
Two months ago, Alro received Nadcap certification for thermic treatment and testing the products’ quality, while in 2007, it was IN 9100 certified, which proves the management system is prepared to deliver for aero space industry from the perspective of technical endowment.
The majority shareholder of the company, international group Vimetco, controlled by Russian billionaire Mr Vitali Matsitski, has recently announced that Alro would cut off aluminum production up to 25% in 2009 and restructure the business by reducing the employee's costs and externalizing the non-core businesses, due to the global crisis.
Alro posted a 22% drop in net profit in the first 9 months of the year to EUR 76.3 million due to lower aluminium demand.
