Michigan Live reported that Alro Steel Corporation's facility, 3000 Tri Park Drive, recently earned a state award from the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
The facility earned a Consultation Education & Training or CET Bronze Award for its superior safety and health record.
Alro Steel had to do things such as establish a health and safety committee, develop an employee training system and reduce its injury illness rate by more than 50% within the past three calendar years to receive the award.
Mr Susan R Corbin deputy director and chief of staff for the state Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth said that "This award recognizes their outstanding efforts to protect their workers, while still meeting the challenge of being economically competitive in today's global marketplace."
The metal facility employs about 45 workers, some of whom are represented by Teamsters Local 332.
