Alstom will use the site to assemble bogies for 468 rubber tyred metro cars which Société de Transport de Montréal ordered from a Bombardier Alstom consortium in October 2010. The CAD 1.2 billion contract requires 60% Canadian content.
The facility is being built by Construction Sorel with local government support, and according to Alstom will create around 60 direct jobs.
Mr Claude Lambert VP & GM of Alstom Énergie & Transport Canada said that "With this new modern industrial building, Alstom finds itself in an excellent position to meet the operational and technical requirements of its North American customers."
Alstom's Montréal facility will supply traction, train monitoring, communication, passenger information and CCTV systems for the metro trains, with the first scheduled for completion in 2014.
