WMBF reported that more than 200 employees will return to work on Monday in Georgetown as the ArcelorMittal steel mill reopens for the first time in two years.

The mill, which makes steel wire rod, was closed in July 2009. Nearly one year later, in June 2010, the local steelworkers union voted to accept a contract proposal to resume work under the condition that all workers will receive an across the board pay cut.

United Steel Workers Union local president James Sanderson said more workers will be recalled as the operation develops. He says about 250 employees will work at the plant when full production resumes.

Maintenance workers first returned to the plant in October of last year to prepare the plant's equipment to start steel production again in 2011.

A decline in orders led to the mill's closing in 2009.
