The management of Astra Vagoane Calatori Arad has recently signed a contract with Siemens for the production of tramways, the investment in the manufacturing line amounting to EUR 6 million until the end of the year.
Mr Valer Blidar, owner of Astra Vagoane Calatori Arad, declared to the correspondent that the tramways produced at Arad are intended largely for the domestic market, consisting of three wagons each.
He said that "There is market in Romania at this moment, because almost all the big cities invest in the rehabilitation of the traffic lanes and need new wagons. It is a profitable affair, both for Astra and Siemens."
He added that the first tramway will leave the manufacturing line in the third quarter of the year, and the number of tramways to be manufactured in the future will depend exclusively on the existing demand.
