The plate plant invested by Italy Beltrame Group in Argentina will be completed by February and put into production in May 2012 as the first plate mill in Argentina with total investment of USD 50 million and output capacity of 250,000 tons of thick plates.

The main source of slab for production comes from Argentina's Siderar Company and imports from Brazil. Most plates supplies domestic market and rest quantity for export to South American market.

Currently, the Brazilian Minas Gerais Iron and Steel Company and the Mexican AHMSA are largest manufacturers of thick plates in South America.
