Bethlehem Steel retirees could be eligible for compensation

It is reported that local retirees from Bethlehem Steel who were exposed to radiation will have a chance to make their case to federal officials who are looking at compensation for related illnesses like cancer.

Congressman Mr Brian Higgins invited officials with the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health to attend a meeting at the Moose Hall on Church Street in Hamburg.

Some are seeking to extend the eligibility for those workers involved in the cleanup at the steel plant up to 1976, records show components for nuclear weapons were made at the plant.

Those who file a successful claim are eligible for up to USD 150,000 in compensation for injuries and ailments.
