Local media reported that at least 11 people have been injured in an explosion at a steel plant in the Zambian capital on New Year eve.

Lusaka Province police commissioner Ms Charity Katanga said the explosion went off in the oxygen plant at Trade Kings Universal Steel and Mining at dawn on Saturday in Kafue area.

She said that the cause of the accident is unknown,

Several of the injured were admitted to Kafue District Hospital while one with a broken leg was taken to the country’s largest health institution the University Teaching Hospital for possible amputation.
