Boulder Steel said that its USD 1 billion project at Gladstone is possibly the first in the state to cater solely for the export market. The draft terms of reference for the project were released this week and community consultations begin next week.

Mr Carl Moser director & GM of Boulder Steel said that "It will be possibly the first plant which is solely catering for an export market and our export market will be the Middle East namely Saudi Arabia and Middle Eastern and North African countries where there's exceptional economic growth and a lot of infrastructure spending which will need this steel."

Stage one is forecast to produce more than 2 million tonnes of steel a year for export and create more than 1,500 jobs.
