Brackenridge Council members said that they would approach Allegheny Technologies Inc about the latest complaints from residents regarding safety and traffic on Brackenridge Avenue related to the company's work on Mile Lock Lane.
ATI, the parent company of specialty steelmaker Allegheny Ludlum Co, is constructing a USD 1.1 billion hot strip mill at its Brackenridge Works, 95% of which is in Harrison.
In order to do that, however, ATI sought and received the borough's permission to expand the mill's footprint by annexing part of Mile Lock Lane and moving the street about 25 feet. Many of the residents' and business complaints thus far have dealt with dirt and noise generated by the work.
Council president Mr Charlene Stobert said she would talk to ATI and the contractor, Mele, Mele and Sons, about it, saying no resident should be subjected to that.
Councilman Mr William Beale said that problem resulted when ATI asked to close Mile Lock Lane earlier so the crews could get ahead of schedule.
He said what was supposed to happen was the construction crew would work on building the new street before closing the old one so that traffic could still traverse it. He added that "ATI has completely taken over and totally disregarded the traffic control plan that Mele set up. The plan for us, the borough, they were supposed to maintain at least one lane of traffic through the construction zone for the relocation of Mile Lock."
