
According to the Brazil Steel Institute, Brazilian crude steel production totaled 2.7 million tonnes in November 2011, falling by 5.2% MoM as compared to October and up by 3.7% YoY.
Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 1.9 million tonnes in November 2011, falling by 10.6% MoM and down by 5% YoY. Of this total, the country's flat steel output stood at 997,500 tonnes, down by 10.2% YoY and down by 14% YoY, while Brazil's long steel output amounted to 893,200 tonnes, falling by 11% MoM and up by 7.6% YoY.
On the other hand, in the first 11 months of 2011, Brazil's crude steel output rose by 6.5%, reaching 32.5 million tonnes, while its rolled steel output decreased by 1.8% YoY to 23.3 million tonnes, including 13.04 million tonnes of flat products, down by 7.3% YoY and 10.2 million tonnes of long products, up 6.4% YoY.
Domestic steel product sales totaled 1.7 million tonnes in November 2011, rising by 11.6% YoY, while sales in the first 11 months totaled 19.9 million tonnes, increasing by 2.9% YoY. Exports of steel products in November 2011 amounted to 811,100 tonnes, down by 17.8% YoY, worth USD 634.3 million.
Exports in the January to November 2011 period totaled 9.92 million tonnes, worth USD 7.7 billion, with increases of 25.6% YoY in volume and 53.1% YoY in value.
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in November 2011 totaled 333,700 tonnes (USD 420 million), with the first 11 months' total reaching 3.4 million tonnes of steel products (USD 4.1 billion), representing a 37.3% YoY increase.
