Mr Vanyo Tanov head of Bulgaria's Customs Agency revealed that it is investigating a major company operating in the fuel sector for wrongdoings.
Speaking for the private Btv channel, he refused to give away the name of the company, but stated he expects the investigation to result in new compromising materials against him emerging in the media.
However, Mr Tanov declared that he has full trust in the country's Prime Minister Mr Boyko Borisov and Finance Minister Mr Simeon Djankov, within whose Ministry the Customs Agency operates.
In the beginning of 2011, tapes of phone conversations of Mr Tanov with other senior official, including Mr Borisov, caused a Tapegate in Bulgaria.
The tapes were leaked recently by the Galeria weekly, which is believed to be mouthpiece of former secret agent Mr Aleksei Petrov, arrested in the Octopus special operation in February 2010, and by the conservative Law, Order and Justice party, also believed to be connected to Mr Petrov. The tapped conversations provide evidence of political cover ups on part of the Mr Borisov government for certain companies in Bulgaria, including Lukoil, which allegedly contrabands fuels.
Mr Tanov also pointed out his agency busted smugglers trying to import 3000 cigarette master boxes in Bulgaria last week.
