The Novinite reported that the introduction of electric cars in Bulgaria will be encouraged through creating a network of charging stations.
The memorandum between Sofia's mayor Mr Yordanka Fandakova and Mr Jan Vavera regional manager of the Czech owned power utility CEZ for Bulgaria, was signed on December 14th 2010.
Mr Fandakova has committed to facilitate the granting of permits and establishing of rights needed to build charging stations on municipal property.
On its part, CEZ will facilitate the provision of power, capacity and transit points for connection of the charging stations. The idea of the memorandum is to create a common strategy and action plan with respect to the introduction of electric vehicles in Sofia.
Earlier, the Deputy Chair of the Sofia Municipal Council, Mr Martin Zaimov, has announced that local authorities are mulling over the option to make the parking at the so called blue zone free of charge for electric cars.
This preference is among the easiest to implement stimuli for green transport.
