Mr Antonio Tiberi, a Claymont resident, in response to a recent Harry Themal column about Claymont, said that "I have lived here for 30 years. The reason I haven't left is because my father worked until the day he died trying to make it a better place for his family. He built with his own hands two houses that arguably would sell for a million dollars anywhere else but Claymont. When people even hear the name Claymont they automatically think of nearby neighborhoods, so, try as we might, the stigma will never be erased. In terms of the steel mill, a paint job and a wall will not fix the long term damage both to the environment and residents. All for what 500 people being employed?"
He added that "I do not see where Claymont has derived any economic benefit from the steel mill. In the age of bailouts and change, why doesn't the government retrain these 500 people and shut down the mill forever? As it stands it will be generations until the land it sits on can be utilized for any purpose."
