The Cosco shipping company and the port of Rotterdam are going to jointly promote the handling of steel and heavylift cargo in Rotterdam. Mr Guo Jing COO of COSCO and Mr Hans Smits CEO of Rotterdam signed a memorandum of understanding to that end recently.

The partners' aim is to double the number of calls of Cosco's multipurpose vessels at Rotterdam to approximately 24 in 2011.

Rotterdam wants to become the leading European import hub for semi-finished steel products, and a leading European export centre for finished steel products and heavylift and project cargo.
