In 2009, Dongbu Steel is completing construction of a brand new mini mill. In order to benefit from AIS expertise in this area, Dongbu Steel selected AIS among numerous providers for the mid-term and short term scheduling of the new plant.

SteelPlanner will build mid term mini mill schedules taking into account all major constraints of casting and milling processes. From the mid-term results, SteelPlanner’s mini mill scheduler, SigmaPlanner, will build day to day schedules with the objective to maximize production and customer satisfaction.

Mr Lee project manager at Dongbu Steel said that "We have a long experience in cold mill area for 30 years, but we are novices in hot mill area. Therefore, we wanted a proven solution for planning and scheduling of our mini-mill. In order to reduce the trial and error that comes from being novice, the proven solution specified for steel, especially for mini-mill, was needed. Finally, we discovered the proven solution provider. We believe that AIS is the best provider and partner of verified solutions, which has much experience in the steel industry."

The project, started in Q1 of 2009, is due to go live together with the mill in July 2009.
