newsin.ro reported that employees of ArcelorMittal Galati would start on May 11th 2009 the first round of technical unemployment, taking turns until the end of July 2009 as the company asked that some environment investments be postponed, with the economic downturn breathing down its neck.
As per report, ArcelorMittal Galati had no other alternative regarding staff than to begin a two month and a half rotation program. The initial plan was to start the technical unemployment on April 1st 2009, but it was delayed until mid May, the management hoping the government would give a helping hand.
Consequently, employees will take turns at staying home 10 days and get 85 percent of the salary.
The last three working units of the coke plant Uzina CocsoChimica functioning within ArcelorMittal Galati, will be shut down in June and the 1,800 staff will be sent home with compensations. It introduced a voluntary leave list to allow people to quit the job and receive payments of up to ROL 25,000 and 24 salaries the most. Those who refuse the money to leave will be moved to other divisions after a Talent Pool is organized to see everyone's top skills.
