It is reported that the threatened Redcar based Corus steelworks has received orders to keep it working until the end of December 2009 and Teesside Cast Products said it is still exploring options to try to secure the long term future of the plant.
Mr Jon Bolton MD of Teesside Cast Products said that "The fact that we are operating until the end of the year is a significant step forward and a timely boost for everyone who works at TCP. Despite what is still a very difficult market position we have secured orders that buy us more time to explore possible long term opportunities."
He added that "We know that we need to perform not only to win orders in the short term but also to position ourselves as a successful business for the future. I know the workforce is working very hard in difficult circumstances. I would like to thank everyone who works at TCP for their continued support."
Mr George Dunning leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council said that "I'm delighted. It brings a degree of security to the workforce until the end of the year at least, and we can only hope it also provides a merry Christmas and a potentially happier New Year for everyone."
