The Age reported that Corus has decided to delay its decision to close a steel mill at Teeside in northeast England by a month.
The decision to delay the closure by a month was taken at the first meeting of the joint management and trade union task force on Tuesday.
It said in a statement that it had agreed to "postpone the partial mothballing to the end of February."
Corus announced in December that it would close its Teeside plant by the end of January, which would result in loss of about 1,700 jobs.
