It is reported that the fight to save 2,000 Teesside steel working jobs is being taken to the Labour Party conference in Brighton. Union leaders and a delegation of workers will be lobbying the Labour conference and attending a fringe meeting.
Mr Michael Leahy Community union general secretary said that "We are bringing together unions with ministers in the hope of saving steel production on Teesside. Our campaign so far has been one of the most successful in winning the support of the local community. Now we are continuing to raise the issue with the highest level of government at the Labour Party conference."
It may be noted that the future of the Corus owned Teesside Cast Products factory in Redcar is in doubt after an international consortium pulled out of a deal to buy its steel.
