
AP reported that the shutdown of Maysteel's Columbus steel fabricating plant in coming months is among the latest moves that will mean lost jobs for Wisconsin workers.
Maysteel notified the state Department of Workforce Development that work and equipment would be transferred from the Columbus plant to other Wisconsin facilities. When that's done, the Columbus plant will be permanently closed on or before July 31st 2009. The move affects about 89 employees, although about two dozen may be offered opportunities to transfer.
In other notifications reported by the state agency, Sub Zero in Madison said that layoffs planned on or after May 29th 2009 would affect 36 employees also Sun Microsystems Inc said that 12 employees would be laid off by June 13th 2009.
