It is reported that Mr Vince Cable, the Business and Innovations Secretary of UK government is visiting the mothballed steel plant at Redcar today.
Redcar MP Ian Swales said Mr Cable visited Redcar in April when he met workers. Mr Swales said at that time Mr Cable had said he would make a return visit.
When visiting the steelworkers in Redcar in April Mr Cable said the TATA Steel has to make clear their plans for the future of the plant. He had told steelworkers: “The first task of the next government is to engage properly with the company and work out what plans there are now.”
Hope remains that Thai steel company SSI will step in and buy the plant.
