Hamilton Spectator quoted Mr Andrew spokesperson of ArcelorMittal Dofasco as saying that employees can expect short pay but no layoffs at least until November 2009.

Mr Sloan said that "We are continuing to respond to a very volatile market. There are significant financial challenges still to be faced in the second half of the year.”

He added that “We are responding to what we think are temporary conditions. We are continuing to make steel but we are dealing with a considerably volatile market."
