A Baltimore County official said that hundreds of Sparrows Point steel mill workers will be out of work this summer as part of the plant shuts down temporarily.
Mr David Iannucci County Economic Development Director told the county council during a budget work session this week that general manager Thomas Russo told him the blast furnace would be temporarily shutdown in June.
Mr Iannucci told the council that he was told the short-term shutdown would affect at least a third of the plant's 2,500 workers.
Union leaders said a decision about a shutdown hasn't been made and a final factor will be the economy.
