Mr Tim Duke president & CEO of Steel of West Virginia said that his company was forced to lay off 52 workers at the Huntington plant just this week. That facility is now down to 373 workers from 423.
Mr Duke said that it comes after the company was hiring people like crazy over the summer. He added that their orders, like everyone else in the steel industry, have dropped dramatically, and he expects it to be a temporary layoff.
He added that "When this thing comes back, it will come back like gangbusters. Hopefully, that'll be in a few months."
