EU scrap imports decline by 14.7pct YoY in July

According to statistics, the 27 countries in the EU imported 287,000 tonnes of scraps in July 2012, falling by 14.7% YoY.

In August 2012, the 27 countries' scrap exports totaled 1.477 million tonnes, up by 0.4% YoY.

In the first seven months of 2012, the EU 27 countries imported 2.104 million tonnes of scraps. At the same time, the scrap exported from the EU 27 countries amounted to 11.802 million tonnes, rising by 10.7% YoY.

In the given period of time, Turkey was the largest importer of the EU scrap with 6.412 million tonnes, rising by 10.3%; India was the second largest one with 1.654 million tonnes, jumping by 53.9% and Egypt was the third largest one with 995,000 tonnes, increasing by 19.3%, all compared to that in the same period of a year ago.

Meanwhile, Russia was the largest scrap exporter to the EU with 637,000 tonnes in the first seven months of 2012, rising by 9.6% YoY.
