The New York Times reported that a former worker at GST Steel Corporation in Kansas City is featured on a new ad run by a super PAC supporting President Mr Obama.
Mr Obama's campaign has criticized Republican presidential hopeful Mr Mitt Romney for his role at Bain Capital, which bought the now closed plant.
Mr Joe Soptic said that he and his family lost their health care after the plant closed, and his wife later became sick and died. But the ad leaves out important context.
According to the Times, the Romney campaign called the ad dishonest and contemptible.
