It is reported that firefighters worked on Sunday to extinguish a fire inside the US Steel Mon Valley Works Irvin Plant in West Mifflin.
Fire officials said no injuries were reported in the blaze that ignited about 12 p.m.
Officials with U.S. Steel said the fire was first noticed in an 84 inch pickle line where steel is moved through an acid treatment to prepare it for finishing applications. They said all of the workers in the area were safely evacuated and accounted for, and the blaze was extinguished about 2:30 PM.
US Steel official said “We will begin assessing the area where the incident occurred to determine the extent of repairs and the impact on the operation of the 84 inch pickle line.”
The plant is operating normally aside from the 84-ich pickle line where the fire occurred.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
