Ruukki has announced that a fire broke out at about 5 AM local time on April 12th 2012 in the ladle furnace area at the steel plant at the Raahe Works.

The incident was caused by a breakout in the slag pot. Molten slag spilling from the hole ignited a fire which was fairly soon brought under control. The cause of the breakout is not yet known.

There were no injuries. The incident damaged the conveyor area of the ladle furnace.
