After an 18 month closure, the first steel making shift at the ArcelorMittal mill in Georgetown is scheduled for Tuesday.
Initially ArcelorMittal has 144 hourly and 33 salaried employees working, though union officials anticipate those numbers to grow in the coming weeks and months.
Initial production for the mill is expected to be approximately 264,000 tons of wire rod annually.
There will be single shift operations for the time being.
The mill closure laid off about 250 workers in July 2009, adding to the growing employment rate which at one point was more than 15 %.
Workers come back to a pay cut as part of concessions voted on by the Union last summer, still the pay is better than a lot of jobs they could find elsewhere.
