
According to the latest data regarding crude steel production released by the French Steel Federation, French crude steel production amounted to 1,107,700 tonnes in December 2011, down by 1.5% YoY and also down by 17.62% MoM.
In December 2011, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces rose by 6.7% YoY, amounting to 368,100 tonnes, while steel production with blast furnace technology totaled 739,550 tonnes, increasing by 1.3% YoY.
Meanwhile, in the whole of 2011 France's crude steel production reached 15,777,750 tonnes, increasing by 2.4% YoY. In 2011, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces rose by 9.4% YoY, reaching 6,125,750 tonnes, while steel production with blast furnace technology totaled 9,652,000 tonnes, declining by 1.6% YoY.
The FFA also noted that domestic crude steel production in 2011 was still 18% below the production figures for the pre crisis year of 2007.
