Yonhap reported that Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co has won deals to build 8 ships for a combined USD 450 million.
According to the shipbuilder, it has clinched a deal with Tanker Pacific of Singapore for 4 oil tankers and another contract with Henghou of China for 2 bulk carriers. Hanjin Heavy also won a deal with Starbulk Carriers Corporation of Greece for 2 bulk carriers.
Hanjin Heavy said that the oil tankers will be delivered during the second half of 2011 and the four bulk carriers after March 2012.
The deals came after the shipbuilder revived a canceled container ship order worth KRW 114 billion earlier this month after the buyer made payments. Hanjin Heavy canceled the order in February 2010 after the shipowner failed to pay.
