Yonhap reported that Hyundai Motor Co has developed a new version of its four cylinder automobile engine.
The carmaker said in a statement that the 2.4 liter Theta gasoline direct injection engine will be mounted in Hyundai's revamped Sonata sedan next year.
According to the statement, Hyundai spent KRW 170 billion and 46 months to develop the new engine, with a capacity of 201 horsepower at its peak.
An official at Hyundai said the new engine would help the carmaker increase competitiveness in mid size sedans and sport utility vehicles.
