AGI reported that ILVA steelworks' sheet and tube department workers are to start forced leave on November 19th 2012 and November 21st 2012 respectively.

The two departments had been the subject of management's earlier efforts to secure a state subsidized work hours' reduction deal with unions in response to weaker market demand.

ILVA management met Fim, Fiom and Uilm trade union representatives on Thursday afternoon, but failing to secure an agreement opted for forced holidays.

Unions clarified that the decision would affect close to 500 workers, of whom 100 have already used their holiday allowances. Unions have therefore asked management to involve the 100 employees in other duties.
