
According to Indonesian trade statistics made available in Tokyo, Indonesia's ferrous scrap imports totaled 1,004,000 tonnes in January to June 2011 period, up by 24.3% YoY, translating into an annualized 2,010,000 tonnes.
In the breakdown by main sources, South Africa ranked first at 148,000 tonnes or 14.7% of the total, up by 323.5% YoY; the UK second at 146,000 tonnes or 14.6%, up by 75.3% YoY; the USA third at 142,000 tonnes or 14.1%, down by 7.2% YoY; Singapore fourth at 74,000 tonnes or 7.3%, down by 19.7% YoY; the Philippines fifth at 73,000 tonnes or 7.2%, up by 9.6% YoY and the UAE sixth at 55,000 tonnes or 5.5%, up by 45.2% YoY.
Indonesia's ferrous scrap imports totaled 245,000 tonnes in June 2011, up by 68.3% YoY, hitting a level of 200,000 tonnes for the first time since the beginning of 2011. Of the total, the UK supplied the largest quantity of 99,000 tonnes or 40.4%, up by 1,226.4% YoY.
