International Steel Structures, a privately USA based company, is ready to share with the world its building technology that will aid in addressing the vast housing shortage world over.
Mr Bob Koger, founder and chief architect of ISS, life was impacted forever when Hurricane Andrew unleashed its fury on South Florida in 1992. He lost his beloved wife and his home was destroyed from the devastating blows of Hurricane Andrew. This tragedy inspired him to design a structural system that would safe guard life and property from nature's fury.
Mr Koger developed a new mobile building system which is called the Mobile Production Facility or MPF. Mr Koger was inspired from an ancient invention, The Arch, which he applied the science and then adding the mobilization to it, hence the birth of the MPF.
He said that "We are excited to bring forth to the world this product and technology which we have worked on for over 20 years. This product will enhance the protection for people from nature's fury from earthquakes to high winds. We feel the world is ready for innovation, especially when it comes to building quickly, efficiently, and with structural integrity."
Habitat for Humanity reports that over one billion people live in inadequate housing and that if no serious actions are taken, that number would double over the next 30 years.
Mr Mark Smith, a principal and managing member of ISS, said that "Any viable solution to diminish the massive housing shortage in the world must be able to increase the pace from production to finished housing unit without compromising the structural integrity. Homes, apartments, schools, hospitals, hotels, and shopping centers are now achievable with ISS's building technology."
Land values, infrastructures costs, and the lack of affordable home finance programs, make the task of delivery affordable housing more challenging for governments and private developers.
Mr Cedric D Griffin, also a principal of ISS, stated that "It is very clear the urgency to address the world's housing shortage, and we believe the ISS building technology is a viable solution to lessen the crisis. Once developers and governments become aware of this offering, the excitement will be contagious, eradicating many of past challenges in mass building. The economic viability and reward with this technology, makes it even more attractive to developers and governments."
