Argus reported that Japan backed Indonesian power producer Bhimasena Power Indonesia will build two 1,000 MW coal fired power plants under a long term power supply deal with state owned utility PLN.
As per report, BPI will supply electricity from the plants in central Java to PLN for 25 years. It expects to start operations at the two plants at the end of 2016 and in mid 2017, with the total cost of the plants estimated at USD 4 billion. The power plants will burn domestically produced sub bituminous coal.
BPI was set up in July 2011 as a JV between Japanese utility Electric Power Development, Japanese trading house Itochu and Indonesian utility Adaro Power. J Power and Adaro each own a 34% stake in BPI, with Itochu owning 32%.
