Japanese construction orders up by 1.5pct YoY in December

Nikkei reported that construction orders at 50 major firms rose by 1.5% YoY in December 2011 to JPY 1.032 trillion, up for the third straight month.

The Infrastructure Ministry said that orders from the private sector rose by 5.8% YoY to JPY 698.9 billion, marking the third straight month of growth.

Orders from the public sector slid 0.6% to JPY 218.4 billion, down for the second straight month. Orders for all of 2011 rose by 4.0% YoY to JPY 10.65 trillion, up for the second straight year.
