According to an estimate by the small bar committee with the Non Integrated Steel Producers' Association, Japan's domestic shipments of rebars (small bars for reinforcing) would total 8,150,539 tonnes in fiscal 2012 (April 2012 to March 2013), up by 2.9% YoY from a definite total of 7,920,848 tonnes in fiscal 2011.
Fudenko is a major organization of domestic electric steelmakers putting out ordinary steel products.
The estimated total shipments in fiscal 2012 break out as 6,138,789 tonnes for construction, up by 3.3% YoY; 1,615,853 tonnes for civil engineering, up by 2.0% YoY and 395,898 tonnes for other uses, no change.
The Fudenko small bar committee's estimate this time on domestic rebar shipments marks a fifth of its kind. The estimate is noted for its accuracy because it is based on year on year increases or decreases by structures in official statistics on new construction starts at home after calculations of uses for construction, civil engineering and others. The calculations are based on steel industry statistics on domestic order intakes of deformed bars by applications.
