
It is reported that Thailand’s commerce ministry officials plan to meet with local manufacturers of furniture and electrical appliance today in order to persuade them into offering some discounts on news items to victims of the severe floods. Japanese makers are welcomed as well.
Japan's exports of ordinary steel slumped by 23% YoY to 1.73 million tonnes in October 2011, the lowest level of the year, due to the devastating floods.
According to officials of Japan Iron and Steel Federation, Japanese steelmakers were not aggressive to export from October due to soft supply demand balance in Asia, weak prices and the effects of Thailand’s floods.
It is known that the devastating floods in Thailand have forced lots of Japanese invested auto and electronics plants to shut down temporarily.
However, the official of JISF stressed that the impact on Japanese steel export may be limited since the makers In Thailand should be completely recovered in the following months.
