It is reported that about 120 new jobs are being promised after councilors backed the expansion of a County Durham car parts plant. The move will see a 15,000 square feet extension to the existing ThyssenKrupp Tallent plant in Newton Aycliffe, which already employs 900 staff.

The firm manufactures and distributes car chassis parts to several car makers, including Ford, BMW and Honda.

Durham County Council said the move would help retain valuable engineering jobs in the area.

Mr Neil Foster, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said that "This is another major boost to the area in terms of job creation and retention. We are very pleased that ThyssenKrupp Tallent has made such a firm commitment to consolidate and grow its successful operation in County Durham."

The company said construction of the new facility was expected to be completed by the spring of 2012.
