
Kawasaki ranked first at 66,000 tonnes in Japan's ferrous scrap exports in August 2011 by customs ports, up by 90.1% YoY; Tokyo second at 41,000 tonnes, down by 25.7% YoY; Hakata third at 20,000 tonnes, down by 17.7% YoY and Kinuura fourth at 19,000 tonnes, down 21.3% YoY.
As a result, the three main ports on Tokyo Bay dominated higher ranks. In the month under review, the nation's ferrous scrap exports totaled 491,000 tonnes, up by 2.6% YoY.
In January to August 2011 period, Japanese ferrous scrap exports totaled 3,295,000 tonnes, down by 25.5% YoY. In the breakdown by customs ports, Kawasaki ranked first at 401,000 tonnes or 12.2% of the total, up by 34.0% YoY; Chiba second at 381,000 tonnes or 11.6%, down by 24.0% YoY; Tokyo third at 242,000 tonnes or 7.4%, down by 42.4% YoY; Nagoya fourth at 161,000 tonnes or 4.9%, down by 37.6% YoY and Tobata fifth at 142,000 tons or 4.3%, down by 13.2% YoY. As a result, Kawasaki, Chiba and Tokyo together accounted for 31.2% of the total.
