Konecranes said that it is supplying lifting technology to the new Siam Yamato steel recycling mini mill in Thailand.

Siam Yamato Steel's semi continuous medium section mill at Rayong in Thailand uses Konecranes lifting technology to service equipment including electric arc furnace, a ladle furnace and a combination continuous caster supplied by Concast. The mini mill will initially produce beams, channels and angles used by industries such as building and construction, offshore production and civil engineering.

According to Konecranes, like the other energy efficient steelworks equipment installed at the mill, the 220 tonnes and 80 tonnes Konecranes installed at the site employ DYNAREG energy recycling technology which uses network regenerative units to feed clean energy back into the power supply.

Konecranes said that its technology was chosen because of a history with Siam Yamato. In 1994, the company provided Siam Yamato with 200 tonnes cranes for an existing mill, and provided after sales service.

In all, Konecranes supplied a 220 tonnes charging crane, a 220 tonnes ladle crane, an 80 tonnes casting crane, two 35 tonnes bloom handling cranes, a 25 tonnes machinery crane and four CXT service cranes.
