It is reported that Korea imported around 470,000 tonnes of slab in August 2009, the highest since March 2008.

Of the total, 139,000 tonnes comes from Ukraine, 229,000 tonnes from Japan and 85,000 tonnes from Brazil. It may be noted that Ukraine’s import of slab surged sharply in the month.

Domestic mills have completed their stock adjustment, plus the slide global prices accompanied with increasing orders contribute most to the import hike.
