The Canadian Press reported that Lakeside Steel Inc and the Canadian Auto Workers union have reached a tentative labor contract covering about 350 workers. The three year agreement will run through October 31st 2014, assuming it's ratified.
Negotiations have been ongoing for the past few weeks between the union and Lakeside management with hopes of a new contract being forged for about 350 unionized workers at the Dain Avenue plant.
Mr Rick Alakas union local president said that "Prior to the deadline, the bargaining committee unanimously endorsed the agreement."
Though a tentative agreement has been reached, it's still subject to approval by members of the local union.
Alakas said the union will speak to its members before releasing any details of what the agreement entails.
When called for comment, Lakeside president & COO Mr Ron Bedard said he was not in a position to comment until after the ratification vote.
He did not want to disclose any further information.
